Young children readily engage in play and enjoy playing, and learn through play.
It allows them to listen and observe , to talk, to explore , investigate and experiment and to learn
about the world around them. It allows them to express their ideas and feelings in many different
ways, to act out situations, to make friends, and develop their relationships.

Play is important because it makes a major contribution in childrens learning:

Early level experiences and outcomes:

Until recently we followed the Scottish Curriculum Guidance for children from 3-5 years and
'The Child at the Centre'. We are now integrating the 'Curriculum for Excellence' into the nursery
and afterschool club. The purpose of the Scottish Governments programme is to improve the
learning, attainment and achievement of children and young people in Scotland.

The children are taught five simple rules, whilst at nursery. These are displayed prominently in the
nursery. We hope they might be useful at home too. They are:
1. Walking Feet
2. Keep your hands and feet to yourself
3. Quiet voices
4. Be kind to your friends
5. Listening ears
and remember.... Look after the toys and playthings

Parents nights are arranged where you will be invited to discuss your child’s development with the
Manager.

Our aim is to develop an effective partnership with you. To ensure this partnership is successful it
is important that we share information, knowledge and celebrate achievements as your child
progresses.

We plan for your child's learning by building on their own knowledge, interests and personal
choices.

The manager is always happy to discuss your child’s progress with you on both a formal and
informal basis.
